[End of Phase 2A Day 2: Updated on 18 Jul 2024]

Registration for Phase 2A is over.  35 schools are going for the ballot, with 3 schools Dazhong Primary, Horizon Primary and Valour Primary requiring balloting only for PRs.

Unsurprisingly, Princess Elizabeth Primary has the highest oversubscription rate at 316%.  The school has an additional 53 applicants this year compared to last year.  For those involved with the balloting, do take comfort in the fact that the total number of applicants eligible for actual balloting is usually 5-30% lesser, as this is Phase 2A, and there will be some alumni parents living beyond 1km.

Shuqun Primary is the next highest with a take-up rate of 235%, while Gongshang Primary comes close at 233%.  The  key reason for this is that Shuqun Primary has 66 more applicants this year while Gongshang Primary has 33 more applicants.

For others waiting for the later Phases in the Primary School Registration Exercise to begin, please note the take-up rate (TUR) column.  This reflects the overall take-up rate for each school at this point, and the maximum is of course 100%.  The highest so far is Nanyang Primary at 85%.  This is despite the fact that the school has the largest cohort of 390 places to begin with!  Nanyang Primary can indeed be considered the most popular school in Singapore.

Temasek Primary has the largest increase (71) in applicants for Phase 2A this year.  In contrast, Kheng Cheng Primary has 30 applicants less than last year.

The following are schools which have seen withdrawals in Phase 2A:
Henry Park Primary
Nanyang Primary
Southview Primary
Lakeside Primary
Shuqun Primary
ACS Primary
Park View Primary
Punggol Green Primary
Sembawang Primary
Angsana Primary
Chongzheng Primary
Maris Stella High

We note that while the distribution seems a bit random, there are indeed withdrawals from a number of “elite” schools.

Good luck for those involved with the balloting this Friday!

[End of Phase 2A Day 1: Update on 11 Jul 2024]

Day 1 of the 2024 P1 Registration Phase 2A is completed.

Phase 2A is interesting because it reflects the thinking of parents who are alumni or somehow affiliated with the schools.  A high take-up rate here could indicate that the school has successfully cultivated a loyal following amongst ex-students, but some of the applicants could also be buying “insurance” and may switch schools in later stages.  We have already seen 4 withdrawals from parents registered in Phase 1 today, and there will be a lot more in Phase 2C.

26 of the schools are oversubscribed, and are highlighted in red in the table below.  Amongst these, Princess Elizabeth Primary is the most oversubscribed at 289%!  There are 130 applicants compared to the 89 applicants last year.  However, Temasek Primary has the largest change from last year, with 120 applicants vs 59 last year.  Since it is Phase 2A, there is unlikely going to be much changes to these oversubscription numbers as most of us has only 1 primary school 🙂

If you have yet to apply in Phase 2A, look at the “2024-2023” column of the chart.  You can take comfort in the number if it is a very large negative number.

There are several schools such as Fengshan Primary and Red Swastika which already have over 90% in applications, so I won’t be surprised if these schools become oversubscribed tomorrow.

Best of luck to everyone tomorrow!
