How to Prep for PSLE Math Now with Computerized PSLE Marking
PSLE scripts are now marked on a computer screen! What does it mean for your child’s PSLE Math Exams preparations?
With the implementation of the new scanning and computerized marking system for PSLE since 2022, how can you ensure that your child is well prepared for the PSLE Math Exam?
Ever since softcopy marking started in 2022, there has been anecdotal feedback on social media and even forum letters to the newspapers about how students are getting lower grades for the PSLE Math Exam as compared to their School Prelim Math Exams.
Parents of primary school students have expressed their concerns online, that since computerized marking involves a single marker as compared to pair marking previously, that means there is no back-up marker (or 2nd opinion) to double check if the student’s solution is acceptable to MOE. Also, while the chief marker does conduct randomized checking of scripts to avoid this issue, parents fear that given the volume of scripts, that alone might not be adequate.
Here are some ways NickleBee Tutors help our students avoid this pitfall and SCORE AL1 for their PSLE Math Exams :

(A) Tidy & Well-Presented Workings
Ensure that all their workings and presentations are logically presented, tidy and legible. The exam markers are staring at scanned answers via a computer screen for hours on end, and the last thing they need are messy and illegible solutions that are indecipherable and hard to award marks to.

(B) Do Not Skip Steps or Take Short Cuts
Advanced Math students (High Ability & GEP) tend to rush through their workings with single-minded focus on getting the correct final answer. This may result in omission of critical working steps and incomplete solutions. Take note that the PSLE Math marking scheme strictly require markers to give marks according to key steps within the student’s solution.

(C) Use Mathematically Correct Solutions Approved By MOE
It is important that students are taught mathematically correct solutions that are aligned with MOE’s problem solving heuristics and get enough guided practice such that there is no room for misunderstanding and wrong application of the techniques by the students when taking the PSLE Math Exam.
